Description
Turn one evening in Tokyo into a personal set of cinematic portraits.
This private one-hour photoshoot takes you through selected streets of Shinjuku after dark, combining neon city scenes with quieter, more nostalgic corners.
Rather than following one fixed photography route every night, your photographer selects locations according to your preferred style, crowd levels, weather, available light, and local photography rules.
Whether you are traveling solo, as a couple, with friends, or celebrating a special trip, the session is built around you.
Plan the look before the shoot
Before the experience, complete a short questionnaire about the photographs you would like to create.
You can share:
- Your preferred mood
- Outfit colors
- Cinematic or natural references
- Couple, solo, or group preferences
- Social-media examples
- Any photographs you particularly want
- Areas or backgrounds you like
This gives the photographer a starting point while still allowing the route to respond naturally to the conditions on the night.
Meet your local photographer in Shinjuku
Meet at a clearly confirmed location near Shinjuku Station.
Shinjuku can be confusing even for experienced visitors, so the exact exit, landmark, photographer name, and contact details will be sent before the session.
Begin with a quick conversation about your preferred mood and how comfortable you are in front of the camera.
No modeling or photoshoot experience is required.
Start with natural direction
The session does not require you to know how to pose.
Your photographer will provide simple guidance for:
- Standing positions
- Walking shots
- Hand placement
- Where to look
- Couple interaction
- Natural movement
- Candid-style portraits
The aim is to create photographs that feel relaxed rather than overly staged.
Capture Shinjuku after dark
Shinjuku combines several very different visual environments within a relatively small area.
Depending on the evening, your route may include brightly lit streets, railway-side scenes, compact side streets, illuminated signs, reflected light, and quieter corners away from the largest crowds.
Official Tokyo tourism information describes Shinjuku as a combination of neon nightlife and nostalgic backstreets, with Omoide Yokocho in particular known for its lantern-lit cinematic atmosphere.
The exact route is intentionally flexible.
Mix neon with nostalgic Tokyo
Many Tokyo night photoshoots focus entirely on colorful neon.
This session aims for more variety.
Your final gallery may combine modern Shinjuku lights with warmer lantern tones, darker side streets, railway structures, street signs, and other details that give the photographs a more nostalgic atmosphere.
This allows the final collection to feel like one evening in Tokyo rather than a series of identical neon portraits.
Photography at Omoide Yokocho
Omoide Yokocho is not automatically included as a guaranteed shooting location.
Commercial or organized photography inside the shopping district is subject to the rules and permission of the Shinjuku Nishiguchi Shopping District Promotion Association.
If Alva Japan Tours has obtained the required permission for your session, the photographer may use approved locations according to those conditions.
Otherwise, the session will use alternative public streets and permitted locations nearby.
The photographer will never ask guests to ignore local photography rules in order to obtain a particular photograph.
Work with the city instead of stopping it
Shinjuku is busy, especially at night.
The session is designed around real city conditions rather than trying to clear streets or block pedestrian traffic.
Your photographer may wait briefly for a useful moment, change angles, or move to another location when a street becomes too crowded.
Other people may occasionally appear in the background.
Empty streets, specific signs, or completely unobstructed photographs cannot be guaranteed.
Solo travelers
If you are traveling alone, the photographer will provide more direct posing and movement guidance.
The session can include:
- Walking portraits
- Environmental portraits
- Close-ups
- Full-body photographs
- Candid-style movement
- Portraits using surrounding lights and architecture
Couples
For couples, the emphasis can shift toward interaction rather than repeatedly looking at the camera.
Examples include:
- Walking together
- Conversation
- Holding hands
- Looking at each other
- Natural movement
- Wider environmental photographs
You can also tell the photographer if you prefer romantic, casual, editorial, or understated photographs.
Friends and small groups
Groups can combine individual portraits, pairs, and full-group photographs.
For larger groups, the one-hour session naturally provides fewer individual photographs per person than a solo or couple shoot.
Receive 30–50 edited photographs
After the shoot, the photographer selects the strongest images and completes the standard editing process.
Editing may include:
- Exposure adjustment
- White balance
- Color grading
- Contrast
- Cropping
- Basic tonal adjustments
The exact editing style follows the photographer’s portfolio and the mood discussed before the session.
Heavy body modification, extensive object removal, complex beauty retouching, or compositing is not included unless separately agreed.
Delivered within 72 hours
Receive 30–50 edited high-resolution JPEG photographs through an online delivery service within 72 hours after the session.
RAW and unedited files are not included.
Keep the delivery link and download your photographs within the stated gallery availability period.
A personal Tokyo memory
This is primarily a portrait photography experience rather than a sightseeing tour.
Your photographer may share brief local context while moving between locations, but the main goal is to use Shinjuku as the backdrop for photographs that feel personal to your trip.
