Description
Discover Japanese chopstick culture in the heart of Shibuya—without leaving the station complex.
This 60-minute workshop takes place inside Shibuya Scramble Square, directly connected to Shibuya Station and just steps from the entrance to Shibuya Sky. It’s an easy add-on between sightseeing, shopping, and city views.
You’ll learn from a long-established chopstick specialist with over 100 years of craftsmanship, rooted in the Wakasa lacquerware tradition. The workshop is designed to be beginner-friendly, with step-by-step guidance and practical tips you can use immediately during your trip.
What you’ll do
1) Quick lesson: choosing and using chopsticks (10 min)
Learn a simple method to find the right chopstick length for your hand, plus correct grip, movement, and everyday table manners—useful for the rest of your Japan journey.
2) Craft and decorate your own chopsticks (40 min)
Choose from prepared wooden chopstick blanks and shape them to fit your hand. Using beginner-friendly tools and resin decoration, you’ll smooth the surface, adjust the tips, and add color or patterns. Staff guide you carefully, so no experience is needed.
3) Gift-ready finishing (optional, extra fee)
Upgrade your pair with a paulownia (kiri) gift box, or premium wrapping options—perfect for a meaningful souvenir or a thoughtful gift.
You’ll leave with a pair of chopsticks that are uniquely yours—and a deeper appreciation for the care behind everyday Japanese craftsmanship. This experience is ideal for solo travelers, couples, and small groups looking for a compact cultural activity in Shibuya with an ultra small group (max 3 guests).
