Begin at Akihabara Electric Town

Meet your guide just outside JR Akihabara Station’s Electric Town Exit.

Before entering the shops, learn why this side of the station is called Electric Town and how Akihabara’s identity has repeatedly changed.

After World War II, the area became known for electronic components and radio equipment. Later came home electronics, personal computers, video games, anime, manga, figures, and other fan-driven subcultures.

Rather than treating anime culture as something that suddenly appeared, your guide will connect it to Akihabara’s longer history as a neighborhood built around specialist interests and constantly changing technology.

Start at Akihabara Radio Kaikan

One of the first landmarks is Akihabara Radio Kaikan.

The original Radio Kaikan opened in 1950. In 1962, an eight-story electronics building was added and became the first high-rise building in Akihabara Electric Town.

The former building closed in 2011, and the current building opened in 2014. Today it contains stores specializing in figures, trading cards, dolls, hobby goods, character merchandise, electronics, and collectibles across floors B1 through 10.

This means the current listing should no longer describe today’s building simply as an “8-story tower since 1962.”

Understand how Akihabara changed

As you move through the area, your guide will explain the shift from radio parts and electronics toward computers and eventually anime, gaming, figures, and otaku culture.

The Akihabara branch occupies the 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors of its building and carries a wide range of older consoles, games, character goods, and related items. Its 5th floor also operates a retro arcade area.

Browse games and consoles from different eras while your guide helps explain unfamiliar systems and generations.

Availability changes constantly, so specific rare games or consoles cannot be guaranteed.

Retro arcade play

The retro arcade machines at Super Potato require their own play fees.

Unless specifically added to your booking, game plays here are not included in the tour price.

Your guide can recommend a machine or explain how to play if you would like to use your own coins.

This avoids the current impression that a free “8-bit classic” play is automatically included.

Explore anime figures and collectibles

Next, visit a selected hobby or anime-merchandise location.

Depending on the group’s interests and current store conditions, the guide may focus on areas selling:

Rather than claiming one shop has “the best selection,” your guide helps you understand what different stores specialize in and where you may have the best chance of finding a particular series or character.

Japanese game centers combine prize machines, video games, rhythm games, racing titles, and other arcade entertainment.

TAITO STATION Akihabara currently lists Mario Kart among its installed arcade games, with four machines shown in its current game information.

Race on Mario Kart

One Mario Kart arcade play per paying participant is included.

Sit in the arcade cabinet and race against friends or other available players.

The exact machine availability can be affected by maintenance, queues, or facility changes.

If Mario Kart becomes temporarily unavailable, a clear equivalent replacement policy should be established before publication.

Learn the basics of crane games

Your guide can also introduce the basics of Japanese prize machines, commonly known as crane games or UFO catchers.

Learn how different prize positions may require different approaches and how to ask arcade staff for assistance.

Crane-game plays are not included in the tour price.

Guests who want to try them can pay directly at the arcade.

The tour should avoid promising that a particular technique will guarantee a win.

Discover 500 gachapon machines

Continue to the GASHAPON Department Store Akihabara branch.

The official current store listing states that the Akihabara location has 500 capsule-toy machines and is located one minute from Akihabara Station.

Browse the machines and choose one that interests you.

One gachapon is included

Each paying participant receives one included gachapon spin worth up to ¥500.

Products rotate constantly according to releases and stock.

Specific anime series, characters, colors, or capsule contents cannot be guaranteed.

If you select a machine priced above the included limit, the additional cost is not included unless specifically confirmed.

Finish at a princess-themed concept café

The final stop introduces another distinctive part of Akihabara culture: themed and concept cafés.

Enter the confirmed princess-themed café and experience a fantasy-style environment where the service, costumes, language, interior design, and food presentation are part of the concept.

Your guide will help explain the rules and style of the café so that first-time visitors can relax without worrying about unfamiliar customs.

Enjoy the included café package

The exact included café package must match the booking conditions confirmed for your reservation.

At minimum, the tour should clearly specify whether the package includes:

• Entrance or table charge

• One drink

• Meal plate or dessert

• Afternoon tea

• Cheki instant photograph

Do not describe the package simply as “VIP Afternoon Tea” unless afternoon tea is guaranteed for every booking.

Afternoon Tea reservations

Under the conditions currently shown on the tour page, the Princess Afternoon Tea set is available only for groups of two or more booked at least one day in advance.

If that remains the actual partner condition, guests who do not meet those requirements should receive the standard café meal-and-drink package instead.

This difference must appear before checkout rather than only inside the long description.

Take a cheki photo

One cheki-style instant photograph with a café cast member is included according to the current tour package.

The café may have its own restrictions on normal smartphone photography of cast members or inside the venue.

Guests should follow the café’s photography rules and use the included cheki service for the confirmed cast photo.

Finish at your own pace

The guided portion finishes at the café.

Your guide can provide recommendations for returning to specific anime shops, game stores, arcades, or restaurants after the tour.

Any additional food, café services, arcade games, gachapon, or shopping after the included package is paid for separately.
